Borough of Poole’s 0-5s Team gained a Highly Commended in the ‘Working with Parents’ category at the prestigious Nursery World Awards 2013. Starting Out was initially developed as a local resource to be used in Poole. Having attracted a positive response, Starting Out was shortlisted for the category ‘Working with Parents’ at the national Nursery World Awards. The Nursery World Awards recognise and highlight the best that is being achieved throughout the UK Early Years sector by organisations, teams, individuals, initiatives and equipment providers. They shine a light on the hard work, innovation and dedication of those in Early Years education and childcare, communicating aspects of best practice and helping to raise the profile of the sector.
We are thrilled that Starting Out received ‘Highly Commended’ at these prestigious awards.
Jeanette York, Project developer, Borough of Poole, said, “The project recognises that it is often a lack of knowledge that causes some parents the biggest challenge as they bring their children up. Sharing a basic knowledge of children’s brain development with parents has had a huge impact on their motivation to engage with the scheme. Throughout the project, parents gain ideas on how to interact and communicate with their children.”
Karen Loftus, Children’s Centre Manager, Borough of Poole, said, “We are so proud of the success of ‘Starting Out’ and to come second in this category is a wonderful acknowledgment of the value of this project.”
Cllr Janet Walton, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Children, Young People and Families, Borough of Poole, said, “We are very proud of the recognition that this project has received from such a prominent national publication. The 0-5s team are now working hard to get ‘Starting Out, Together it’s Child Play’ rolled out nationally, so that even more families can benefit.”
